MISSION: Soccer on the Summit

summit final_cmyk

On Flag Day, June 14, 2014 a team of active duty American service members and soccer supporters will reach new heights to promote their favorite sport and their favorite cause.

Mission: Soccer on the Summit

In 2012 Hooligans for Heroes was established to unite soccer fans in support of America’s wounded warriors. The time has now come to move mountains. With the same feet that crossed Iraq and Afghanistan to protect American interests, America’s heroes will now climb for their brothers and sisters wounded in action. By their side will be supporters representing soccer clubs across America.

“Lean on Me” is not just a slogan adopted by Hooligans for Heroes. During this 3 day event it will be the rally cry of the climbing teams. Throughout this grueling adventure to 14,410 feet the climbers will lean on each other for strength and support in the goal of raising money to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project.

Never before in America has there been a soccer match played at 14,000 feet. The culmination of the climb will be a soccer match pitting Team Heroes against Team Hooligans. Taking place on the snow and ice in the crater of an active volcano, this will not be your typical soccer match, but since when are supporters your average sports fans?

Mount Rainier is the most prominent mountain in the contiguous United States. The 14,410 ft. stratovolcano is the focal point of Mount Rainier National Park. The park encompasses nearly 360 square miles of sub-alpine meadows, old growth forests and more than 25 glaciers covering 35 square miles. Approximately 10,000 people attempt the summit climb each year with just less than 50% succeeding.

While the climb will be challenging, the Hooligans for Heroes team will have the motivation and drive to reach the summit! If you want to be involved with this mission as either a climber or a financial contributor, please follow the links below.
